GO is a made-to-measure, 3D-printed consumer wheelchair designed to fit the individual needs of a wide range of disabilities and lifestyles.

Made-to-Measure

The Wheelchair accurately fits the individual’s body shape, weight and disability to reduce injury and increase comfort, flexibility, and support. The accompanying GO app allows users to participate in the design process by specifying optional elements, patterns and colourways, and to place orders.

GO is the result of an intensive, two-year research period during which the studio interviewed dozens of wheelchair users and medical professionals to establish ways to remove the stigma associated with wheelchairs as medical devices and create a more human-centered vehicle.

Our Role

The GO wheelchair is the result of intensive research with dozens of wheelchair users and medical professionals conducted by LAYER over a six-month insight-gathering period. We used these insights and our experimental research into 3D printing to drive the design of the revolutionary wheelchair. LAYER also designed an app that allows users to participate in the design process and customise the product.

We developed new technology and a manufacturing process that generated life-changing IP.

“GO is an excellent example of the use of 3D printing to offer mass customisation and personalisation of products. This project is a meaningful application of 3D printing to have a positive impact on individuals’ lives”
